Clearwater Bay Amateur Open 2005
Nov 2005

On 5 November, 190 top-playing amateur golfers eagerly arrived at The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club to take part in this year's Amateur Golf Open.
Many golfers traveled from afar to play at The Clearwater Bay - and it's not surprising to see why. The Club's new and progressive 18-hole links golf course, located on the stunning Clearwater Peninsula and surrounded by breath-taking ocean views is the perfect stage for such a premier event.
Play started early when the Ladies division teed off with a shotgun start at 6.45am. Competition was fierce and set the pace of play. Cheung Ping claimed winning victory with a nett 69 score over the Club's own 14 year old Ginger Mak, who finished 2 stokes behind Ping, playing a 3.4 handicap.
In the Men's Senior Division, The Clearwater Bay was pleased to witness two of its resident golf members in the final three. Leung Tim Yui earned first place with a score of 42, closely followed by W.F. Wong Louis who was runner-up with a score of 40.

The first team of the Men's Division teed off at 11.30am. Former Hong Kong squad member Alexi Van Damme managed to hold off Adrian Leung (both previous junior Club golfers) to take pole position as the Gross Winner for this year's Clearwater Bay Open. Both 18-year olds played their hearts out, but Van Damme - a budding professional golfer, currently attending the AGU Elite Golf Programme stole the show. Veteran golfer and Club golf member Peter Sun triumphed as the Nett Winner with a score of 69, ahead of Paul Curran who scored nett 72 as runner-up.
"The event was another huge success for The Clearwater Bay" said the Club's Director of Golf, Peter Downie, "We couldn't have wished for better playing conditions, and the energy and enthusiasm from the amateur golfers was a real pleasure to see. We're looking forward to hosting the Amateur Open again in 2006!"
