2005 was a great year for the Club's Community Outreach Program, with youth continuing to be the main focus of our efforts. As a result of our activities, we have brought good fortune to many people, and our Club was presented with two honorary awards in 2004, as an added benefit to the Club's membership. A total of HK$312,242 was donated to 11 different charities supporting youth, the elderly and, in a kind act to all citizens of Hong Kong, the environment.

In July 2004, the Club sponsored for Breakthrough's Angel Smile Creative Carnival, and in August we sponsored Breakthrough's training sessions and kids' camps. For less fortunate children we offered free access to the Club's swimming pool as part of Hans Andersen's Swimming Fun Days. Andersen later nominated Clearwater Bay for the Caring Company Logo Award.

In October 2004, Breakthrough held a "Net Addiction Workshop" that dealt with the effect of new technology on children and family relationships. This proved to be a worthy and popular topic of discussion for the eighty members who took part, demonstrating the value of Clearwater Bay's Community Outreach Program for all concerned.

When the Club held its Classic Indoor Doubles Tennis Tournament in December 2004, an auction was held to raise money for World Vision, a charity that alleviates child poverty. World Vision also received net proceeds from the Club's first ever Charity Walk which took place in February 2005 as part of Chinese New Year celebrations.

In May 2005, the Club held a Charity Tree Planting event, plus a May Bazaar at the Marina. A total of HK$74,283 was donated to theWorld Wildlife Fund (WWF) For Nature, and the Club was presented with its second Panda Award from the WWF in recognition for our efforts to help promote a clean and healthy environment. Finally, giving hope to under-privileged children in South Asia will be a Club objective in the coming year, as we embark on a Child Sponsorship Programme in association with World Vision Hong Kong.

Ensuring that all of these activities run smoothly is no easy task, and credit must go to our Club's committee members for all their hard work. As a way of thanking committee members, a wine auction was held during the Chairman's Thank You Dinner in May, and all net proceeds were donated to the Haven of Hope Christian Service, an organisation that provides care for the elderly.

Overall, the Club's Community Outreach Program has been a remarkable success. By assisting the young both in Hong Kong and overseas, and by aiding organizations dedicated to the preservation of Hong Kong's natural environment, the Club is helping to create a better tomorrow. As an organization that values the importance of family and friends, there is much for Club members to gain.

For two years in a row, The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club has been nominated for the Caring Company award by the organizations that have benefited most from the Community Outreach Program. The Club has also received two Panda awards from WWF Hong Kong for the Club's efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment. But there is something even more essential than these merits for Club members to consider.

As Dr Jack Wong, Membership Committee Chairman, says: "The reason why I think the Community Outreach Program is essential for Clearwater Bay, is because I think it's the duty of privileged members of the community like us to help underprivileged ones. I think we can set a good example for our youngsters and teach them that they should contribute, that they can help, and show them how to help."

It's a sentiment that can make the world a better place for everyone.
