Community Outreach Programme

Beneficiaries of our Club's Community Outreach Program

By working with a select group of internationally recognized charities, the Club's Community Outreach Program is making a big impact on people's lives. By giving members the chance to contribute in an effective way and to demonstrate the value of giving to young people, we are creating a brighter future for all.

Addressing the World
A major and long-term beneficiary has been World Vision Hong Kong (WVHK). World Vision's emphasis on helping children suffering in abject poverty makes it a natural fit for the programme. Established in 1950, WVHK provides child-focused, community-based programmes that lead to poverty reduction and self-reliance. No goal could be nobler.

Believing in Seeing
Losing the power of sight is a near certain consignment to hardship, especially in countries that lack basic medial necessities. The Club's Outreach Program address this by partnering with ORBIS, a charity that focuses on the needs of the visually impaired. ORBIS is well known for its Flying Eye Hospital, a refitted DC-10. What ORBIS is less well known for is the number of long-term projects that it is operating in Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, India and Vietnam to expand eye care capabilities, to establish prevention and treatment programmes, and to train doctors and nurses.

Home Foundations
Another programme recipient is Breakthrough, a Christian-based organization in Hong Kong dedicated to helping local youth. Ms Joey Shum, assistant external affairs manager for Breakthrough says, "It has always been important for us to have community partners who share the same vision - we appreciate the financial support we receive from The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, as well as the great team spirit of the staff members in joining us to serve families."

Breakthrough aims to help young people have a positive outlook on life and to fulfil their dreams. Among Breakthrough's many activities and efforts are a series of publications aimed at Hong Kong youth and a series off educational programmes on how to conduct youth training. Breakthrough also provides counselling services that cover a range of situations faced by young people in today's society.

Creating a Sea Change
Another recipient of the programme's largesse has been World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong. WWF was originally established in 1961 and started a local operation in Hong Kong in 1981. The main objective of WWF is to stop and eventually reverse environmental degradation through conservation efforts and education. The Hong Kong office focuses its efforts on programmes in Hong Kong and the Mainland through cooperation with its counterparts in China.
