The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Announces the Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup 2010
Community Outreach Programme for Caring Community

Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup 2010, hosted by the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club "CWBGCC", will be held from 13th to 14th March. There will be three categories for this Champions Cup including Men's Doubles, Parent & Child Doubles and Ladies' Doubles Challenge. The Men's Doubles is by invitation only, featuring 16 top players from Hong Kong (including present and past Men's doubles champions of the three Hong Kong Grand Slam tournaments). The Parent & Child Doubles and Ladies' Doubles Challenge are open to the public to encourage family involvement and more tennis enthusiasts to join this most spectacular tennis event in Hong Kong.

Tournament Director and Country Club Committee Chairman of The Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club Mr Lam Siu Wai said, 'The CWBGCC has eight years' experience in organizing the Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup – one of the most significant tennis events for local tennis players. The eight pairs of Men's Doubles players are top tennis players and their performance will be enthralling. The Ladies' Doubles Challenge and Parent & Child Doubles are open to the public with an aim of promoting public awareness of the sport, which will in turn further its development in Hong Kong and attract new talent.'

Meanwhile, Mr Lam said the CWBGCC has frequent contact with tennis clubs in the region, which offers opportunities for local players to improve their skills and he is glad about break-through in tennis development in Asia, with Chinese tennis player Li Na being listed among top 10 tennis players in the world an example of the strong potential of Asia tennis players. This year, American tennis player Phillip King has been flown in from the U.S. to participate in the HK Tennis Champions Cup 2010, another example that the CWBGCC is committed in promoting the sport and bringing it on a par with international levels.

Today, the CWBGCC announced details of the HK Tennis Champions Cup and the final round players of upcoming matches for Men's Doubles. The CWBGCC has invited players including:

  • Wayne Wong (CRC Open Singles Champion 2009 & SCAA Open Singles Champion 2009) / Yu Hiu Tung (No.1 Hong Kong Ranking of Men's Singles);
  • Andrew Town / Andy Brothers (CRC 35's singles Champion - 2009);
  • Coenie van Wyk / Jason Lijewski;
  • Brian Hung (HK Nationals Doubles Champion 2009; CRC Open Doubles Champion 2009 & SCAA Open Doubles Champion 2009) / Jack Hui (HK Nationals Doubles Champion 2009 & SCAA Open Doubles Champion 2009)
  • Henry So/ Rong Ma;
  • Phillip King (HK Tennis Champions Cup Singles Champion 2009) / Ryan Ho;
  • Kelvin Lam/ Ray Lam;
  • Keith Lo/ Ethan Farbman (No. 1 Hong Kong Ranking)

To enhance the attractiveness of this Champions Cup and to encourage more tennis enthusiasts to participate, CWBGCC will offer a total prize purse of HKD 120,000. Special thanks go to Canon for being title sponsor of the championship and other sponsors include Toshiba and Wilson.

This year's event has again a strong charity element with revenue from entry fees from the Ladies’ Doubles Challenge going to WWF Hong Kong for a wide range of conservation and environmental education programs in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Proceeds from Parent & Child Doubles will go to Hong Kong Tennis Association for junior development in the sport. This year's Champions Cup will surely mark another milestone in the local tennis history.

Since 2003, CWBGCC has been running Community Outreach Programme by providing facilities, services, funds and support for charities working for everything from youth education, elderly wellbeing, emergency relief, environmental protection, and the plight of poorer people across the world. So far the initiative has raised more than $3 million for various causes to benefit the society.
